About GLL
GLL is London's most successful social enterprise and one of the best known in the UK. It was originally set up in 1993 to run and operate 7 leisure centres owned by the London Borough of Greenwich. The organisation is not for profit and employee owned.
GLL's subsequent business record is a story of consistent growth and it is a notable example of how the social enterprise business model can be successfully applied to this sort of service provision.
In 2007, the organisation operates more than 60 leisure centres within the M25 area in partnership with 12 London Boroughs including; Barnet, Camden, Ealing, Greenwich, Hackney, Hammersmith & Fulham, Lambeth, Merton, Newham, Sutton, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest as well as Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, Bellingham Community Project, the London Playing Fields Foundation, the London Fitness Network and the London Development Agency.
About our partnership
GLL wanted to completely redevelop their website in accordance with the exciting direction the business is taking in terms of growth. Empower Ability have been engaged by GLL to provide specialist consultancy advice regarding accessibility and usability. GLL have many brands, including their Wellness programme which runs at their leisure centres, the London Swim School and spa LONDON. Ensuring that each of these brands is consistently represented across GLL’s online presence is of paramount importance and part of the work we do with their web team. Our ongoing partnership with GLL will ensure that all of these factors are maintained once the new website launches in summer 2007.
